Employee Focus: Dennis Harris
Our employee focus for the third quarter of 2022 highlights one of our newer employees, Dennis Harris. Dennis became a member of the Van Mark team in the role of Machinist, in June of this year. Dennis told us that one of his favorite things about working at Van Mark is that he isn’t micro-managed. “I don’t have someone looking over my shoulder all the time” Dennis says. He appreciates that he can be independent and trusted in his job duties. Dennis is the type of person that takes a lot of pride in his work and to make sure he’s producing a quality product; he inserts extra quality checks throughout his shift just to make sure he is putting the best possible products into the hands of the Van Mark customer.
When we asked Dennis to describe Van Mark in just a few words he said, “Quality Brake Producer”! Dennis tells us that he’s personally heard the great things customers have said about Van Mark brakes and now that he works here, he understands why Van Mark is considered the #1 brake brand in the industry.
Dennis was asked where he sees himself in the next 5 years and he told us, “I see myself at my own desk running my own business”! Although we would hate to lose a great employee, we can understand the desire to be your own boss and chart your own course. Small businesses are an important part of the economy, and we hope Dennis can reach his goals and make his dream of being a business owner come true.
Dennis stays very busy when he’s not at work. Like any good son, Dennis helps out his mom on a regular basis. He enjoys fishing, swimming, playing basketball, woodworking, puzzles, and vintage cars. He currently has a 1984 G-body Cutlass that he’s been putting finishing touches on in an effort to get ready for this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise! In addition, Dennis and a friend recently teamed up to purchase an aluminum fishing boat which he is looking forward to using as an escape from the every-day, when the time allows or when he just needs a break. Dennis is the father of two daughters and one son, all who are grown. Dennis grew up in the State Street area of west Detroit but has been calling Redford ‘home’ for the past 7 years.
