Employee Focus: Hal Burns

June’s focus is on another of Van Mark’s long-term employees, Hal Burns.  Hal started working for Van Mark in August of 1985. This August, Hal will be celebrating his 33 years with the company.  That’s quite an accomplishment!  When Hal started at Van Mark, he worked in general maintenance, but eventually began learning many different functions in our Production area.  Hal’s love of building things make his work at Van Mark that much more enjoyable.  Hal tells us “We sell a unique product, so I feel my skills are not typical, and that gives me a great feeling of job security.”

Hal told us that he is very proud of the products he helps produce. When asked where he hopes to be in five years, Hal told us he hopes to be retired and golfing as often as possible. 

Hal began golfing just 2 years ago and has really fallen in love with it.  Hal has been practicing martial arts for many years and received his black belt in in 2004.  He enjoyed participating in various martial arts tournaments over the years.  Hal likes reading non-fiction books and riding his bicycle when not at work.

Hal grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, but moved to Michigan with his parents and siblings in 1963.  He has resided in Michigan ever since, and currently lives in Madison Heights.
